Kidz Support Den

What our parents say...

“I found out about the Kidz Den through Scoil an Droichid. My son attended the Den from November and it has helped Nathan a great deal with his general school work. He gets on very well with all the staff and I am very pleased with all he has achieved as he simply would not get this opportunity at local level”- Elaine, parent of Kidz Support Den pupil.

What is the Kidz Support Den?

The Kidz Support Den is an afterschool early intervention support initiative, facilitated by a team of student teachers and volunteers.  It aims to provide weekly one-on-one support in literacy and numeracy to local children struggling or disengaging with their education.

Why is the programme needed?

Sólás currently serves a local base of primary schools within South Belfast. A number of children are on their Special Education Needs register. The needs of children cannot be met by the schools alone. Parents & guardians with children on this register can book a weekly slot in the Den for a minimum of 15 weeks, where a Student Teacher provides their child with focused learning support. Children in the Irish Medium education can also be supported in the Kids Den by student teachers with Irish Language.

Who does it help?

Local children of primary age, attending schools within the South Belfast area.

When do we run it?

The Kidz Den is on Monday to Thursday (term time) from 3pm to 5pm.

Where is it located?

The programme is run at locations in South Belfast.
