Home Support, Respite services & Siblings programmes

Parents will be supported for approximately 8-12 weeks depending on need. The home support worker will help families cope with a child or young person’s challenging behaviours at home. This support is often in the form of visuals, behavioural strategies and 1:1 work.

In January 2022 we employed 3 Play Therapists/Art Therapists to provide a range of therapy, as well as counselling and complimentary therapies for families.

Who does it help?

30 families around Belfast have been supported over the last year with our home support programme.

What is Home Support?

Working directly with the Family Support Hubs in the Greater Belfast area, we provide home support to families of Children who are pre-, during or post-diagnosis of ASD. The home support worker will work with children between the ages of 4-11 and their parents on a one-to-one basis in the family home.

What is the Respite service?

Our respite service involves our workers taking a child or young person outside of the family home a few hours each week, providing them with a sense of independence. This service can only be covered by a family’s Direct Payments, allotted by social services.

During the pandemic our services switched to an emergency respite programme, through which we were able to help 10-20 of our most vulnerable service users.

Siblings programmes

We run siblings programmes in 6-8 week blocks several times a year. This is a great opportunity for the siblings of children with additional needs to meet with their peers and share experiences and take part in fun activities together for a few hours. This is usually one evening a week.
