Training

"At Sólás we believe it is important not only to provide practical support to children and families, but to train others to do the same. We offer a range of training to educate and inspire those interested in supporting children with additional learning needs."

E-Learning Child Protection Modules

Our E-Learning Child Protection training modules explore the field of Child Protection, a fundamental part of our role at Sólás. On completion participants will have an understanding of best practice when working with children, including assessing the needs of a child and ensuring a safe environment.

Our E-Learning modules enable you to complete child protection training online. This training is an integral part of our induction programme. The E-Learning programme is designed for Sólás volunteers and staff working with children. The programme is made up of three modules which are straightforward and quick to complete and you can do them in your own time online without the need to go to workshops or training days.

The training is designed to improve your knowledge of Sólás and explore a variety of topics to provide you with the information and skills needed for your role as a volunteer or staff member, with a specific emphasis on safeguarding children.

Child Safeguarding training

We provide all staff and volunteers working with children with Safeguarding training in cooperation with the Belfast Trust.

Further opportunities for training are also communicated across the year by the Volunteer Coordinator(s) and HR.

To enquire about training opportunities speak to your line manager or HR.

School Podcast Project Training

This project is run for mainstream primary schools. We provide each school with training on Audacity (sound editing software) as well as video creation and editing tools. We provide this training to staff and children depending on the needs of the school. Previous projects have included Culture and Arts projects like ‘Stories from the Past’ & ‘My Hero’, to Healthy Eating and Exercise projects.

School podcast media is an ideal tool for enabling children to engage more readily with learning materials. The innovative approach adopted by our tutors enables children to become enthusiastic about learning. The end result is a video podcast uploaded to our safe website, www.schoolpodcast.org, where parents and other family members can view it and provide positive feedback to the child on their efforts.
