What is the Summer Scheme?

 

Summer scheme offers children with autism the opportunity to engage in play and fun activities in a supported environment. One–to-one staffing allows the groups to go on a range of trips to places such as the zoo, the park, horseriding and Streamvale farm. Indoor activities include soft play, pottery and visits from music therapists, art therapists and play therapists.

Why is the programme needed?

 

The scheme gives families the opportunity for support and respite during the summer months and is a good opportunity for children to integrate and socialise with their peers when not at school. It also enables children to access trips and outings that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to do. Children with autism and other developmental disabilities often find it hard to access mainstream summer schemes therefore this is a fantastic alternative for them.

 

Who does it help?

 

Primary-school age children with autism.

 

When do we run it?

 

July and August for 4-6 weeks every year.

Please note we have limited spaces for this programme.

We assign families on a first-come first-served basis.

​

 

Where is it located?

 

Located at venues around the Ormeau Road/Donegall Pass area of South Belfast. Parents will leave children at a designated venue each morning of the scheme.
